Which is the best coffee maker for you?

There are many different types of models out there these days. You can for example differentiate between electric (coffee machines) and manual models. The manual coffee makers are generally much cheaper, but most households today still prefer the more convenient electric models. But within these broad categories many other distinctions exist. The electric coffee makers or coffee machines can be split into roughly 4 different types:

The Percolator

The Percolator provides a somewhat outdated, but nevertheless still used, way of making coffee. Percolators will simply steam your coffee. They tend to be quite hard to clean and oftentimes require to be assembled before use. They do, however, represent the cheapest option among electric coffee makers.

The Drip Coffee Maker

The Drip Coffee Maker can be seen as the classic among coffee machines. It is still the most common type of coffee makers for private usage. It is easy to use, affordable and doesn’t take up much space in the kitchen. Don’t expect any wonders, however. If a standard cup of coffee is just fine for you, the brewing your coffee with a drip coffee maker may just be enough for you. More demanding coffee enthusiasts will, on the other hand, likely miss some features on a Drip Coffee Maker.

The Thermal Coffee Maker

The Thermal Coffee Maker works and looks very similar to the Drip version. The only real difference is that the thermal version uses an insulated carafe which keeps your brewed coffee hot for hours if need be. Other than that, the Thermal Coffee Maker comes with all the advantages and disadvantages as the Drip Coffee Maker, albeit it is somewhat more expensive.

The Espresso Machine

For true coffee enthusiasts who love to experiment with different types of coffees, or more precisely espressos, the Espresso Machine seems like a must choice. The machine is fully automated and gives you a maximum of functionality (the exact functions can of course differ from model to model). Espresso Machines are the magicians among the coffee makers, but this “magic” does have its price. It can also take a while until you get accustomed to and figure out all the different functions your particular model provides. But for espresso lovers with a generous budget, the Espresso Machine certainly seems like the best and most obvious option.

The Single-Serve Coffee Maker

A Single Serve Coffee Maker makes coffee through either capsules or pods. Single-Serve Coffee Makers are extremely easy to use and still allow for a variety of coffee flavors and types. In a way, they can be seen as a compromise between the Espresso Machine and the Drip/Thermal Coffee Maker. They are not necessarily much cheaper than espresso machines, however. Especially the capsule version is also not exactly environment-friendly since most capsules land on landfills after usage.
